#1. Open Parivahan’s Website
Firstly, open your favorite browser and type ‘Parivahan’ (or parivahan.gov.in) in the search box.
It is the official website for the Ministry Of Road Transport And Highways, powered by the Government Of India.
So simply open the site.

#2. Click On The Drivers License Option From License Related Services Section
After opening the site, You will see there are several options.
There are four options:
- Drivers/Learners License
- Driving School
- Online Test/Appointment
- Other Services
So in the License Related Services section, you need to click on the Drivers/Learners License Option. Check the image below.
By the way, all these four buttons will redirect you to Sarathi’s site anyway.
#3. Visit Sarathi’s Website
After clicking on that button, Parivahan’s site will automatically redirect you to the official Sarathi’s website (sarathi.parivahan.gov.in) to fillup the driving license online form.
Sarathi’s website is made for all the Driver’s License Related Works.
#4. Select The State That You Belong
Now you will see a box asking you to select a State. So you need to choose the state in which you want to apply for driving license online or the state where you currently reside.
For Example: If you are residing in Pune or Mumbai then you will simply choose Maharashtra.
#5. Select The City That You Belong
After selecting the State, now you have to select the RTO and the city in which you want to Apply For Driving License Online. simply select the city.
For Example, here we are selecting Maharashtra as the state and RTO, PUNE–MH 12 as the city, and RTO respectively.
NOTE: For some states, Sarathi’s website doesn’t ask you about your RTO and your City. you will be automatically redirected to the further process.
Now…
#6. Click On The New Driving License Option
Now the main homepage of Sarathi’s website will be opened. On the homepage, you will see that a Horizontal Menu Bar is containing several services.
Simply click on Driving License From that menu bar. and then click on the New Driving License option.
If you have any confusion about this step, there is another way.
On the center of the website, can you see some Buttons or Icons there? From those icons, Can you see an Icon named Apply Driving License?
Yes, simply click on that Icon. see the image for reference.
#7. Read The Instructions Or Click On The Continue Button
After clicking on the Apply Driving License option, this page will be opened. here you will be shown all the instructions for submitting the online application for driving license.
The instructions such as:
- Fill Applicant Details
- Upload Documents
- Upload Photo And Signature If Required
- DL Test Slot Booking
- Payment Of Fee
- Verify The Pay Status
- Print The Receipt
These instructions are covering a total of 3 stages of apply online for driving license.
Now simply click on the CONTINUE button.
#8. Enter Your LL Number And Date Of Birth
When you click on the CONTINUE button, the below new page will appear. Actually, this is the online application for a driving license.
Now on this page, you will see three different choices for applying for a driving license.
1) Holding Learners License
2) Holding Foreign Driving License
3) Holding Defence License
So choose the correct option that you fall in.
By the way, it will already select the first option by default.
Now, you can see two small boxes are asking you to provide your ‘Learner’s License Number’ and the ‘Date Of Birth’.

You need to fill in the learning license number and your date of birth carefully.

Important Before You Process Further:
You can see that there is a note on this page.
It says: “If The Learning License Contains Space, Please Enter Space.”
This means that while entering the learner’s license number in the box, you have to add space in between the numbers or characters if it is required.
For Example: If the LL No: MH12 /0001234/2021, then you will enter this number as MH12<space>/0001234/2021.
So after entering the details, simply click on the OK button.

#9. Confirm Your Application Details
As soon as you click on the OK button, the full page will appear on the screen.
Firstly you will see your Learning License Details on this page.
Then if you scroll down a little, you will see the main online application for a driving license here.
You will confirm all the details you have given at the time when you have applied for the learning license.
Details such as:
- Name of the applicant
- Gender
- Date Of Birth
- Place of Birth
- Qualification
- Mobile Number
- Country Of Birth
- etc…
Plus you have to confirm your address details also.

#10. Select Your Class Of Vehicle Driving Licence Online Form
Now again, scroll down a little. you will see a little section on this page. see it in the below image.
So select the State and the RTO according to you.
This is also Important:
Now, this is the time when you need to be a little careful when you apply online for driving license.
You can see, there is a small box in that section. That box contains nothing but almost all the Classes Of Vehicles that currently running on the Indian roads.
This means that you are applying for a driving license online to drive one of the classes of the vehicle from this list.
For Example: Let’s say that you have a 2 wheeler vehicle that features a gearbox facility.
Such as Hero Splendor, Hero Passion, Bajaj Avenger, or even Royal Enfield Bullet.
Then, you will select the ‘Motor Cycle With Gear [Non-Transport] [MCWG]’ option.
And on the other hand, If you have a 2 wheeler but not comes with a gear facility in it such as Honda Activa, TVS Scooty, Suzuki Access, Or Other.
In this case, you will select the ‘Motor Cycle Without Gear [Non-Transport] [MCWOG]’ option.
Similarly, there are more other options. you just need to check that in which class your vehicle falls.
You can also select multiple classes of vehicles at a time. It means that you can select MCWG and MCWOG at the same time.
Note: If you make a mistake while choosing the classes of the vehicle, and once you submit the application, you just cannot change it.
you will need to fill up a new application form for driving license again.
Alright, so now, we are continuing with the ‘Driving License For Motorcycle Without Gear’ option.
So we will select this option.
#11. After Selecting The COV, Click On The Submit Button
After selecting the vehicle class you can see there are small Blue Arrow Buttons in this section. Click on the Right Arrow button.
after clicking on it, the class of that particular vehicle will be shifted to the next box. it means that you have selected 1 class of vehicle for the driving license.
If you select a wrong class by mistake, you can undo that by clicking on the Left Arrow button. it will be shifted to the first box again.
So now, simply click on the SUBMIT button.
So the next step is…
#12. You Have Successfully Applied For The Driving License Online !!
As soon as you click on the Submit button this new page will be opened on your screen.
Guess What….? You have successfully submitted your online application for driving license.
You can see your Acknowledgement on this page containing your newly generated Application Number, Application Date, and Date Of Birth, etc.
Plus you will see the services that you have requested on your acknowledgment.
Now do not forget to take a printout of this acknowledgment.
By the way, you will get all of this information on your Registered Mobile Number.

Is a four-wheeler license valid for 2 wheeler?
